Dr. A. Tyrone Sylvester, a native of Jasper, Texas, holds a Bachelor of Music from Stephen F. Austin State University, a Master of Education from Prairie View A&M University, and a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from Louisiana Baptist University.
For his dissertation titled “No Child Left Behind: Christian Curriculum and Instruction”, Dr. Sylvester had the opportunity to explore the educational structure of the 21 century church as well as the instructional strategies that will yield a greater understanding of Kingdom principles. The purpose of his research is to challenge the pastors and leaders of the faith based community to evaluate the effectiveness of their current methodology and to challenge them to implement a variety of instructional methods that will address the varying learning styles of all parishioners within the local fellowship; resulting in a paradigm shift in how Bible doctrine and spiritual principles are conveyed within the church structure.
Dr. Sylvester previously served 11 years as an administrator in the Alief Independent School District; 7 of those years as a Campus Principal. He currently serves as the Secondary Director of Human Resources in the Spring Independent School District.
Dr. Sylvester is married to Kenyatta Sylvester and they have two sons, Caleb Tyrone Sylvester and Collyn Joshua Sylvester.
He was inspired to organize the Great Commission Family Church in January 2007 with 18 parishioners in the living room of his home. As a part of the Sheldon community, the church has grown to over 125 parishioners. Through his teaching, preaching and modeling, he is leading the Great Commission congregation through the various phases of kingdom building.
Dr. Sylvester is a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and was inducted through the Iota Mu Chapter at Stephen F. Austin State University in the Spring of 1990.
